The ghosts of my past were never half bad
But the future erodes like the enamel on my teeth.
And the man in the ward for traumas force fed the daytime dramas,
Or the mysteries of our secret societies.
But that's alright,
Cause if I should die tonight, let me die tonight.
I believe that life for me will sadly end in tragedy,
I need a good stiff drink before I feel alright.
This modern day Yossarian, I am what I am and that’s all that I am,
Plastic and molded, poetic and colder than ice.
But that's alright,
Cause if I should die tonight, let me die tonight.
All those rainy afternoons
Now we buy new things that already look used,
It’s a delicate dance towards détente
Now we cook the books just to get what we want
We smile and nod to hide the fact we’re confused.
The air brushed beauties of the magazines
Cling tight to the money and the Vaseline,
But the undertaker never gets the skin quite right.
And that once tanned summer body, its all cancerous and rotting,
Still stunning like a starlet in the late summer sunlight.
But that's alright,
Cause if I should die tonight, let me die tonight.
